My father is a drywall subcontractor and works for a drywall contractor. Since the Builder gives the job to a drywall contractor and then the drywall contractors gives it to the subcontractors. How can we get the job directly from the builder instead of getting it from the drywall contractor?

What if I finished my basement without getting permits? I used quality contractors. How can I get insurance?
Tuesday, March 25th, 2008thespian66 asked:
Home already insured, but I added basement without getting permits. It is professionally done by many of the same contractors who built my house originally. If I changed insurance companies now, had them do a wlk through, and my house burns down later. Will the new insurance company ask to see permits and/or original plans to my house in order to decide what they will pay for? Net/Net: What can I do now to make sure my house is insured fully, besides tearing down my basement drywall for inspection?

What is the ‘BEST’ contractor site or software for ‘Estimating’ a job for a proposal/bid in todays market?

My husband is a self-employed contractor, well he sub-contracts mostly commercial jobs, drywall, metal stud framing, sometimes ceilings, etc. I/We are looking for a website or software that helps in determining the price to bid on the job proposal, like something that would have the going rate of material (for our Tucson, AZ area) and the going rate of $$$$ for work, just because it seems like in todays market we need to lower our bids because everyone else is but were not sure what amounts to use. If there is a free site out there to check this info, that would be great. Or else software (preferably an ‘easy to use, user-friendly’ type) out there to help us in deciding prices and amounts to use on our bid sheets. Thanks

Help Please – How much does it typically cost to install to install sheetrock (per square foot)?

Need some help please – trying to understand average cost per square foot to install drywall. That would include screwing it into place, cutting as needed, mudding seams, etc…I know that 4×8 sheets are tyically ~$10 each. I am looking for the typical labor associated with that type of work. I think my contractor is taking me for a ride. For about 500 sq feet, I am being charged about $1200. Seems way too much! THANKS!

Why are the walls in apartments so thin?
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008Hood asked:
I live in a newer complex and we consistently have noise issues with the paper thin walls in this building. I can literally hear my neighbors leaving and entering rooms downstairs, and playing loud bass music.

The insulation is very poor in the units too, so given these issues, why do contractors build apartments with such low quality materials? Do they not have any hindsight for the people who are actually live there? Or is it that much more expensive to find a better drywall?
How on earth can I make my small general contracting (home improvement) business be more visible and grow?

I live in an affluent county and have many great references. However business is really slow. Other contractors are feeling the pinch too and are bidding pretty low. I do bathroom remodeling, wood floors, painting, drywall, etc. I do have a website, but honestly no one has ever called from it. Any concrete suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

My house caught fire 4 months ago. All the drywall was replace throughout the house except for one room. I still smell a bit of smoke in that room. I have complained may times to the contractors about it. Now I am starting to move back in after 4 months of repair. I do not know if I should just deal with it and hope that the smell leaves. Please let me know something.
