cats asked:
I’ve heard about dry ice popping out dents in metal. I had a contractor put a hole in my ceiling yesterday when he was in the attic. Drywall fell on the floor. He was walking around on the floors with big boots afterwards trying to clean up and got some sheetrock on the bottom of his boots. It’s caused some dents
It is Brazilian cherry hardwood (real, not prefab)

Melm asked:
I am worried that the contractor I hired to do home repairs will not repair damage caused during his repairs. Example: The storm dorm used to shut (it was tight before) but now it won’t shut. Also, drywall was removed with the cabinet sink when he took it out and he didn’t fix the wall before he put the sink back in and now there is a seam of holes all around it. Also, holes around new light fixture where the old light fixture was before. Surely they will fix these things right???
No I haven’t paid them in full. I paid half before starting and will pay the rest when I am satisfied that they are finished. I guess I’m afraid he is going to say that will cost extra for extra labor although to me you should expect things like that to happen when you are taking stuff out and putting it back and should repair it as you go along. Am I way off in my thinking or what? Example: when you tear off baseboards sometimes you are going to make holes, correct?

nikki o asked: I’m looking to buy a home that was gutted down to the studs. someone started a rehab and didnt finish. I know no case is typical, but is it common for plumbing to be ripped out as well? here is a link to the home. Any contractors know what the cost would be to drywall a home this size? Were not looking to do it ourself.
Were just trying to see if the whole thing would be doable or not? Thanks!

My contractor drywalled walls before ceilings creating 1/2 – 1 gaps but plans to fill with 20 minute fast drying compound. Is this OK or will this be more likely to ***** later?

Bubbles asked: OK- I put this in the wedding section because I knew I would get good truthful answers. And the fact that I really have a new relationship with these people- I though more brides would be more connected with the idea of the question.
We were in a jam and need a licensed contractor. We hired my sister inlaws boss/friend and it was OK. The guy was nice and let us side on stuff and do some of our own work. We are binded by this werid HUD loan. Well, due to some buying out and the pity of an inspector- we have been released from the loan and do NOT need a contractor with insurance anymore. The guy did very little work and charged us 5 grand. So now that we are FREE we don’t to use him anymore. He did a bad job on the a lot of the work and a half ars job on my drywall. We ended up redoing a lot of the work. We promised him the a kitchen job but he wanted $1,500 and we found a master cabinet maker who will only charge $1,000 and his work is amazing. Plus I am scared to have this guy touch my $2600 sink.
The issue is- My husband sister thinks this guy is a handyman GOD- and she keeps talking about how the work WAS so great that he did and he barely charged us Anything. Plus she goes ON about all the hard work he and she did for us (she filled out two forms). I can’t use the cheaper excuse because he’ll just lower his price.
How do I excuse this contractor without damaging my relationship with my sister in law?
We ripped out the cabinets- we did the clean and up haul away. We bought them ourselves and did everything ourselves. I am not down playing anything- this other guy DID nothing!
We just need someone to install them- period.

Robert O asked:
So in order to get the sweet sweet Direct TV, their contractors had to drill a hole through my apartment wall. The problem now, is fixing it so I won’t get charged for it. The outside of the wall is stucco painted a brownish red color, and the inside is a normal looking wall (drywall). How can I fix this so the aprtment owner doesn’t charge me?

1familyman asked:
I somewhat revise this question about my house fire becasue of some of the answers that were given and thought to elaberate. All the floors, carpet and drywall was replaced throughout the house. Only one room they did not take out the drywall, but everything else was replaced. I still smell smoke in that one room and i think it is coming from the drywall that was not replaced. I have already started moving back in want to know if the smell will ever go away or what should the contractor be doing since all the attemps have failed. They used kill x, but I dont think it was used on the wall. They also used an ozone thing that is designed to kill the smell. I now have new carpet and furniture in that roome and still smell a little bit of smoke. What can I do now dealing with the smell and to sugest to the contractor?

sdwjsw asked:
The spots are gone in the middle of the day, for the most part. However, the paint looks very rough during early morning and right when the sun sets. Our contractor says they are shadows due to the semi-gloss paint. My husband says they are spots that were not done correctly when the drywall went up. The drywall is brand new. Are either of them correct? What causes all of these marks to be seen at those times of day, but not in between?
