There’s some water damage on my ceiling, which is made of drywall, that’s about 6×12 inches or so. How much do you think it will cost a handyman/worker to repair it? We live in North Carolina, if that helps at all.

The tape around the drywall ceilings in our house is coming down. How do I fix it?

goddessusie asked:

The ceiling is textured, so I can’t just put spackle on top because it wouldn’t look right. I’m afraid if I try to glue it or put cauk under the edges, it will cause the drywall on the ceiling to flake off. The only thing I can think of is to put crown molding up against the ceiling to cover and hold it up. Any other ideas? Thanks for your help!!
BTW, the texture in the ceiling is the texture that looks like arcs using a comb-type applicator.

How do you framing and drywall around a basement window?

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009
Neo asked:

I am in the process of remodeling my basement. I am currently framing the outside walls with 2 x 4 with a 1/2 gap between the cement and wood. There are two windows that are 32 x 18 and cemented into the poured wall. Around the window is a beveled 1 cement edge.

Should I frame and drywall up to the window frame or leave the 1 cement beveled edge? If I cement over the cement edge to the window frame then how will the drywall paste attach to the cement to have a smooth transition?

zoynkszz asked:

I live in a new home about a year old. The wall above my shower unit started crumbling and cracking. The contractor came in and just scraped spackled and repainted. But the paint and spackle are now cracking and peeling again. Is this an issue of using the wrong kind of drywall? How can I tell and what can I do about it?

What would an open split foyer stairwell look like with drywall instead of balusters?

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009
Tim D asked:

We need to replace the railing on the stairwell in our split foyer home. We are thinking about going with just a drywall rail, with a finished oak cap, instead of the traditional railing and spindles. I’d really like to find some pictures of examples where other homes have this same style. But I can’t find any pictures on the internet. Could you help me find some good examples?
