I’ve done a little drywall finishing before with good results. Some people have told me that I should damp sponge the finish for a better result and less dust. I’ve tried it this way, but I can’t get as good a finish as I can by sanding. Am I doing something wrong, or is sanding the way to go for a pro’s- finish?

What paint color will be good for a subpar drywall finishing job?
Thursday, March 26th, 2009I consider myself a rookie when it comes to finishing drywall. What color do you think will mask some of the errors in my finish work?? It’s in the basement without much natural light, so a lighter tone might have to work.

Can I mix paint in with my drywall mud for ceiling texture?
Friday, February 20th, 2009I am doing a drywall project for someone. It is a fixer-up house. When I do the ceiling texture, he has requested that I mix in paint with the texture so that he does not have to paint it later.
My question is, if I am doing a knock-down texture, will the mud still knock down right with the paint in it? If not, he also said I could do an orange peel texture on the ceiling. Am I able to mix paint in with m y mud and do any orange peel?
If I am able to mix the paint in with my mud, how much paint do I mix in?
Thanks in advance for your help. I have been doing drywall finishing for 5 years. I am 24 years of age.

Drywall finishing on ceiling-a disaster! We’ve really made a mess of it?
Monday, May 5th, 2008Due to circumstances too complicated to go into, my husband and I ended up trying to finish the drywall on our kitchen ceiling ourselves. We were in a bind and couldn’t get a contractor, so we used compound, taped, sanded, primed and painted the ceiling 2 weeks ago. In some places the tape has bubbled, in others it’s clearly visable under the tape, the ceiling looks, well, bad.
My question is: how best to fix it? Do we sand down to the original tape (please, nononono!) and redo it? Is there a textured paint we could use? Pressed tin panels (country house)? We don’t have a lot to spend on the project, so any advice would be appreciated! (Yes, I know we messed-up when we painted)
