coming off with it. You can see what looks like cardboard stuck on the back of the wallpaper. Any suggestions or tips would help immensely. Thanks.

Water damaged drywall: When do you repair or replace?
Friday, September 11th, 2009ericwms asked:
I’ve recently taken off wallpaper in a bathroom in my parent’s house. They’ve had the same wallpaper since they moved in nearly 30 years ago. My goal is to repaint the walls and ceiling. Unfortunately, there is a bit of water damage in two areas — right above the wall tiles which are directly above the floor. How do I know if the damage can be repaired or whether I should re-drywall? The two damaged spots are roughly 4×4 inches — they aren’t really holes but the drywall is starting to crumble and its a bit brown in color.

How do you repair drywall that was damaged when wallpaper was removed?

Some of the paper tore – not down to the plaster but still significantly. Is there anything I can do? I want to paint the wall.
Thanks.
I’ve done the spackle and sanding in another room and it rippled when I painted it. Why did that happen and how do I avoid that happening again in this room?

Is there another way to finish drywall without mudding?

I’ve put up new drywall, but I don’t want to do all the mudding. I plan on putting up wallpaper, so all I really want is to cover the ***** holes and seams. My husband wants to do the mudding and paint, but it takes such a fine job to then be able to paint. Is there another way to do this without mudding? Also, one person said to put vinegar in paint, I’ve never heard of that. Either way I do plan on putting a coat of primer one because I hear that makes the wallpaper adhear better and it’s easier to get off.

What is the best way to sand drywall in prep to paint?

I just removed wallpaper from my walls. I also had glow-in-the-dark star stickers on my ceiling, which when removed, tore off bits of drywall. Furthermore, my do-it-your-self-er Dad decides to load on tons of spackle without cleaning the moist, sticky wall underneath. What is the best, fastest and least expensive way for ME to remove this spackle, sand the walls and prep them for a nice clean coat of white paint?

What would you do with a wall that has stubborn wallpaper and pieces of the drywall falling off in clumps?

We live in a very old house and are trying to paint one of the walls in our bedroom. It has about two or three layers of wallpaper, which we thought we would scrape off, but it won’t seem to come off all of the way. And then it seems that big clumps of the drywall are coming off with the wallpaper and now we just have a mess for a wall… Is there anything that we can do repair the wall short of using drywall mud?

How do you fix the papery texture of drywall?

I just tore up some wallpaper in my bathroom. Unfortunately I also tore up the first paper layer of the drywall as well. Now I am left with this very rough papery texture similar to ripped cardboard. I have used joint compound on some areas but don’t want to use it on the entire wall. Is there anything I can use to smooth out the texture of the wall?
